Meeting Jean-Louis Gaillemin is like getting on board a Lamborghini Aventador, and exploring the history of design and decorative art at 300 km / hour ...
At home, wedged in his XXL contemporary style sofa, eyes riveted on the ceiling (wooden coffered, polychrome, 18th century) under 6 meters high and in the half-light of 3:00 pm, we listen to the Maestro ...
"Here the lighting is very 18th century" he declaimed, opening the door and let's go for a lap from the 1st to the 21st century, fasten your seat belts!
A booming start, Le 7 et le Palace period, mid-1970s: " I started out as an object of beauty, model by day, bartender-cashier by night ". On the shelf, behind his desk, the photo of a young man, shoulder-length hair à la Jim Morisson, black jacket and eyes-revolvers, attests ... But by day, the explosive and cultivated young man also composed the lights -neons in colors which lit up the "Roller-Disco" track and the nights of the most legendary of Parisian clubs…
So is JLG, decorator, photographer, graphic designer, co-founder of Beaux-Arts Magazine (with Patrice Bachelard and René-Marc Chaffardon), founder of La revue l'Objet d'Art, Doctor in Art History, Honorary lecturer at the University of Paris-Sorbonne… and also author of numerous books on design, styles and decoration, the latest of which is “Too beautiful to be true. The false in art, from the tiara of the Louvre to the chairs of Versailles ”published by Le Passage editions.
We will meet Jean Louis Gaillemin at the Museum of Decorative Arts MAD on December 15th.
